From mid-November to late February, huge schools of herring and cod migrate from the Barents Sea toward the fjords and the Lofoten Islands. They are followed by their predators, the cetaceans. Sightings of these animals are therefore seasonal. A few years ago, mid-January through mid-March was the ideal time; for the past two years, it has been mid-November through late January, although cetaceans are also present before and after this period, albeit in smaller numbers.
French-language tour guided by a Grands Espaces tour guide.
For European/Swiss nationals:
All excursions listed in the itinerary are included. Some are optional. They take place by taxi, car, or minibus. Some are conducted in Zodiacs, which are provided by the boat. A few walks are also included in the itinerary.
We’ll arrange these for you according to your preferences, with arrival in Tromsø around 4:00 p.m. and departure around 10:00 a.m.
To fully enjoy observing wildlife and the scenery, we strongly recommend bringing a good pair of binoculars.
For good wildlife photos, we recommend a lens with a focal length of at least 200mm.

Built in 1994 for the Danish government, it was used for oceanographic research and the installation of coastal buoys in Greenland. It was completely refitted in 2020 at the Gdansk shipyard by a Norwegian shipowner. The work was carried out in close collaboration between Italian architect Marco Coppola and Christian Kempf, a scientist and pioneer of expedition cruises, founding president of Grands Espaces, expedition leader, and the person with the most extensive experience with expedition cruise ships.
Technical Information:

Denis B. – Norway 2026: A wonderful trip, a destination I highly recommend, magnificent landscapes, two outings a day with walks suitable for everyone, led by a remarkable guide!
Daniel L. – Norway 2026: We went from reality to a dream. Every day, the magic of the landscapes worked its charm—the gentle beauty of a sunrise in pastel colors, the warm orange glow of a sunset. And the sublime Northern Lights that we saw several times. It was an absolutely fantastic trip, and thanks to the entire team, we’ll cherish wonderful memories of it.
